It recently dawned on me that I've attended two ribbon-cutting events in my town this year. Be it for a public facility or a private business, have you ever attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony?

When I mention ribbon-cutting ceremonies in my previous question,I do mean "ceremonies" in what may be the most ceremonial of senses. If I'm recalling rightly, though it's certainly the case for the one I attended for my town's community center, the ribbon being cut didn't open an entrance to any part of the facility where the cutting was being held. In the case of that cutting, it occurred in its gym with a couple of city officials holding the ribbon at each end and someone else in the middle snipping the ribbon with a pair of giant scissors. I understand the intended momentousness of the occasion, but, in another way, it seemed to me kind of silly to cut a ribbon to , technically, the wall behind it Understand that the ribbon-cutting took place in December on a day where temperatures reached a high in the upper 20's Fahrenheit. The physical circumstances of the ceremony still seems somewhat silly to me. To you?
Yes, at least a bit silly

I'd suppose the scissors used for ribbon-cuttings like the ones I've attended this year have to be specially made to cut ribbons of the width of those used for such ceremonies. Their enormity is, in fact, kind of comical to me, and they must require two hands to use, I'd suppose. Can you think of any other use(s) for a pair of scissors used to cut a ceremonial ribbon?
Yes (and i may mention at least one one in a comment)

If you've never cut a ribbon for a ribbon-cutting event and were invited to do so, would you be a ribbon-cutter?
Yes, give me those scissors, and I'll have at it.

My town's municipal planner, mayor and others speaking at the community center grand opening went on at some length in the brief speeches they gave about our community and the good the building and what's housed in it will do for those in the community. Long as I've lived in the town I currently call home, I'm, at best, diffident about feeling I'm part of the community that comprises my city. To what degree do you feel yourself to be part of your place of residence's sense of community? Very much so
