In recent days, heavy smoke has filled the skies over Southern Canada and some northern American cities. The fires started in the Ontario region, and there are still more than 190 wildfires raging across the northern part of the province, with more than 850 active wildfires burning across Canada overall. Areas affected by these fires have been chocked in heavy smoke for days, with the air quality being the worst in the world...but all over social media, there are posts from Americans blaming Canada for "ruining their summer" and "not doing enough to put out these fires". Even politicians are blaming Canada for not doing enough, with (not surprisingly) Trump threatening Canada for "unnecessarily sending dirty air into the United States". Are you affected by these wildfires?

Most of these fires are burning in Canada's boreal forest. This region is larger than the entire U.S. It's where the US gets most of its lumber from. This isn't your little small state parks where everything is micromanaged. This is a huge unbroken forest of pure wilderness. There is very little infrastructure, such as roads, towns, airports. It is pure unbroken wilderness. Where the closest road could be 100 miles away. Why don't we cut fire lines? Do you have any idea how unrealistic that would be?! The boreal forest has millions of lakes, marshes, swamps, and rivers. Not mention mountains, hills, and valleys. Canada has for the last few years received less snow and rainfall than normal. We have been in drought conditions. There were hundreds of fires burning in Canada. Resources like fire fighting equipment like planes, helicopters, firetrucks, as well as firefighters are doing their best, but are limited. The area is simply too big. If you have a fire that is burning 100 miles in the bush and there are no roads allowing you to get close, what do you do? Fly one helicopter in 100miles to dump a bucket of water of the fire, to put out 0.0001% of the fire? Our priority right now is the safety and evacuation of communities that are directly in the line of fire. Did you know the sheer magnitude of this forest area?

From Jan. 7 to 31, 2025, 14 major wildfires affected the Los Angeles metropolitan area and San Diego County in California. Canada deployed firefighters and their army to help fight these fires. In 2020, firefighters were also deployed to help fight the California and Texas wildfires. Canadians were deployed to help the U.S. countless times to help with hurricane relief, and other natural disasters . Where is the response from the U.S. now that the wildfires are in our country? Instead of complaining about "ruining their summer", why does the U.S. not respond by fighting alongside Canada to help with the relief efforts?
