The Girl Guides of Canada have developed new guidelines to assist in the inclusion of girls and adult members that identify themselves as transgender.
“We are committed to supporting an environment where all girls and women feel accepted,” says Chief Commissioner of the GGC, Pamela Rice, “we are reassuring that regardless of how a child was born, a girl is a girl.”
The document includes a variety of guidelines from specific questions on washroom use to issues of identity. The new guide is also inclusive to troop leaders who identify themselves as transgender.
The guide was released last Monday to what was “met with enthusiasm and pride by members across the country” and the interest has been received with support from sister organizations around the world.
