Results: Barrie Student arrested for not going to school
Published on 03/18/2016
A teenage girl in Barrie spent a night in jail after she was arrested Friday night for allegedly skipping a large number of high school classes.
Barrie police say a warrant was issued March 8 for the 16-year-old girl under the Education Act because she was consistently absent from school without cause and then failed to attend her originally scheduled court date.
On Friday, police say the teen was arrested and held overnight in jail for a bail hearing today.
Students and parents are reminded at this time that in Ontario it is mandatory for persons between the ages of 6 and 18 to attend school. Exceptions to compulsory attendance are explained in section 21 of the Ontario Education Act.
