Talarico is an outspoken critic of Christian nationalism, calling it "a cancer on our religion", and has often said "there's nothing Christian about Christian nationalism". He has cited his faith and the teachings of Jesus, especially the commandment to love God and one's neighbor, as the reason for launching his political career. He has called politics "another word for how we treat our neighbors". Talarico has called Christian nationalism "the worship of power—social power, economic power, political power, in the name of Christ" and has accused Christian nationalists of turning Jesus "into a gun-toting, gay-bashing, science-denying, money-loving, fear-mongering fascist", arguing that it is "incumbent on all Christians to confront it and denounce it" in a 2023 guest sermon that has more than a million views on YouTube. In July 2025, Talarico appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience and discussed the influence of faith on his political career, after which Rogan recommended he run for President in 2028. Do you believe Christian Nationalism is a huge problem in the US to dictate how others live their own lives?

Recently he has made huge headlines as he was slated to be aired on Late Night with Stephen Cobert On February 16, 2026. Colbert claimed that the interview was canceled by CBS because of the Trump administration's "intensifying pressure against broadcast TV networks." Colbert stated that he had been instructed by the network's lawyers not to have Talarico on the show or mention the cancellation. He went against their advice, interviewing Talarico and spoke publicly about the cancellation. Colbert accused CBS of censorship and subsequently posted the interview to the show's YouTube page, where it had gained 7.3 million views by February 18, making it the most viewed interview segment on The Late Show's channel in a year. This was seen by many commentators as an example of the Streisand effect. At 36, if elected, Talarico will be the youngest member of the U.S. Senate. Do you think the FCC and the Trump admin is trying to silence someone they fear could win a seat in a non voting state red state of Texas?
