Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has breached Ontario's Conflict of Interest Law according to a judge and has been removed from office. The case centered around Ford’s decision to participate in a February council debate on whether he should be forced to repay $3,150 to lobbyists whose donations to his football foundation he had solicited on city letterhead.Ford voted with the 22-12 majority to cancel an earlier council order to reimburse the money. The Municipal Conflict of Interest Act, a provincial law, is strict: members of council cannot speak or vote on issues in which they have a financial interest. Ford's lawyer said he had a lapse in judgement while the judge said he deliberately ignored the law.
