A federal judge has temporarily blocked a new U.S. Postal Service rule that would have required additional tracking and verification of mail-in ballots ahead of the November midterm elections. The rule, which stemmed from an executive order signed by President Donald Trump, could have allowed ballots to be rejected if voters were not included on a federal eligibility list. The judge said the measure was likely unlawful because election administration is primarily handled by states and Congress had not authorized the federal government to impose the new requirements.
