President Franklin D Roosevelt speaking: 'The world abhors conflict - the hand of neighbor shall not be lifted against neighbor, the continuance of the processes of arms presents a challenge to the type of civilization to which all of us have been accustomed. The inheritance of the world (peaceful civilization) rests with the Americans and it must be reborn from the present disaster (German invasions of Scandinavia and the Lowlands).
