History
As an avid reader, one of the genres I enjoy is historical fiction. Often times the author will have notes in the back providing their sources. I recently read 'The Paris Notebook' by Tessa Harris, which is about a doctor who wanted others to know how unstable Hitler was after treating him following an injury he sustained during WWI.

One of the sources cited was a book titled, 'Triumph of the Will: How Two Men Hypnotized Hitler and Changed the World.' Per the summary: In October 1918 Adolf Hitler, a lance-corporal, lost his sight following a British gas attack. Doctors diagnosed his blindness as being due to hysteria. Rather than being treated in a nearby hospital, he was sent to a 'nerve' clinic in the Pomeranian town of Pasewalk. There Dr. Forster, one of Germany's leading hysteria specialists, used hypnosis to treat him. Although his sight was restored, the experience left Hitler convinced he had a divine mission to 'make Germany great again.' He believed that every step he took was dictated by a supernatural power. In 1931, Erik Jan Hanussen, a Nazi supporter, taught him how to hypnotize the masses (source: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1513641409/?coliid=I2Y157QN4YJ08Z&colid=6G098YRGT4TR&psc=1&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it). Do you feel this sheds some light on how/why Hitler became the horrible dictator he was?

Another source cited was 'A Psychological Analysis of Adolf Hitler: His Life and Legend' written by Walter Langer, a man in the M.O. Branch of the Offices of Strategic Services in Washington, D.C. It was released to the public in August 1999 and while it contains horrific information, from what I understand, it is what prompted the USA to join the war against Hitler (https://www.cia.gov/readingroom/docs/CIA-RDP78-02646R000600240001-5.pdf). While US presidents must undergo cognitive testing, they are NOT required to take psychological or psychiatric evaluations or pass a mental health examination before taking or while serving office in the United States." Do you feel that psychological / psychiatric evaluations should be mandatory for US presidents?
