History
Many people are familiar with the Eiffel Tower - a monument built in Paris and designed by French engineer Gustave Eiffel for the World's Fair of 1889. Fewer people are aware that Eiffel created a secret apartment surrounded by an open air balcony on the highest platform, near the spire.

Almost 1000 feet in the air, the cozy study features decor from the late 1800's like ornate wallpaper, wooden cabinets, desks, plush velvet furniture, and a grand piano. There is a kitchen, living room, and bathroom; but no bedroom, as Eiffel never stayed there overnight. Were you aware of Eiffel's apartment at the top of the tower?

Eiffel used the apartment to entertain distinguished guests like artist Paul Gauguin, Buffalo Bill, and international royalty. It currently functions as a mini-museum that can be viewed from the outside, and contains wax figures of Eiffel, his daughter Claire, and Thomas Edison. Hypothetically, would you have been willing to hang out with Eiffel in his apartment?
Yes, what a wonderful opportunity.

The Eiffel Tower features souvenir shops, restaurants, and wonderful photography vantage points. Do you think this wrought-iron lattice structure (that for many has been a symbol of romance) is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the world?
