The name - Robin has no formal last name, though some versions call him Robin of Locksley. There are records of an outlaw "Robert Hod". The series "Robin of Sherwood" goes with the notion he simply wore a hood to conceal identity. Have you ever heard "hood" or "hoodlum" used for a thief or bandit?
