Famous sex therapist Dr. Ruth Westheimer, who passed away last year at the age of 96, made a living teaching us about spicing up our love life, but she was also a trained sniper. She was a sniper in the Israeli army during the early formation of the state. Dr. Ruth joined the Haganah, which would go on to become the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Because of her height of 4 feet 7 inches, she was trained as a scout and a sniper, and became proficient with Sten guns and grenades. So, not only did she revolutionize the way we spoke about sex, opening up candid and often humorous discussions of taboo topics, she was also an excellent shot. Elvis (no need for his last name) was known for his distinctive voice, his gyrating pelvis and his jet-black coiffed hair. So, you may be surprised to learn that Elvis was actually blonde. His hair started to darken somewhat in adolescence to a light brownish blonde, but aspiring to look like his heroes Tony Curtis or Marlon Brando, Elvis begin darkening his hair deliberately and dramatically. In his earlier days, he even admitted to coloring his hair with black shoe polish to achieve his signature look. Have you ever colored your hair to achieve a certain "look"?

Simon Cowell, as a record executive, has made a name for himself being in charge of big names in the entertainment industry, and on TV shows like American Idol, The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent. His start was decidedly less glamorous. He started off working as a runner behind the scenes on movie sets, most notably on Stanley Kubrick's 1980 horror film The Shining—where one of his tasks was polishing Jack Nicholson's axe for the famous "Here's Johnny" scene. Oprah is so well known people instantly recognize who you are talking about without mentioning her last name. Oddly enough, when Oprah was born, her Aunt Ida named her Orpah after a character in the Bible's Book of Ruth. In 2008, Oprah explained her family, unfamiliar with the name, pronounced and spelled it "Oprah" from her infancy, though it remains "Orpah" on her birth certificate. So, one of the most famous names is the result of mispronunciation. Do you know someone whose name is different than their birth name?
