In the late 1800's through the early 1900's, Madame Abomah had a 30-year career appearing in theatres, music halls, and sideshows around the world as a singer and 7 ft 6 inch "giantess." She was billed as a fearsome Amazon fighter from West Africa, but was actually born in the USA.

Despite being billed as a member of an African king's Amazon fighting force, Ella (Madame Abomah) appeared in expensive and elegant apparel, draped in jewels. She even had a personal wardrobe attendant (pictured here). Her bearing was described as demure, feminine, graceful and modest - as seen in her photos, mostly taken in her 40's. Are you surprised that her promoters didn't dress her in fighting attire, perhaps carrying a club or spear?
