She was responsible for giving the world one of the greatest ballads of all time "I Will Always Love You", recorded by Whitney Houston -- which was actually a farewell to her creative partner -- and for giving the world over 3,000 songs. She was as country as country could be, but still managed to effortlessly crossover to pop, gospel, folk -- in short, there was nothing she couldn't do. As if that wasn't enough, she also crossed over to acting, with movies like 9 To 5, Steel Magnolias, and many others. She also built a multi-hundred-million-dollar business empire through smart ownership of her creative work, savvy entertainment investments, and a relentless work ethic. She gave us Dollywood, her amusement empire and dinner theatres throughout the U.S. But even more than all this, she was known as a generous and wonderful humanitarian and philanthropist. She extended that kindness into her personal life, and was always inclusive and supportive.
