Several months ago, critics all agreed that if anyone was a shoe-in for a best actor nomination at the Oscars this year, it was James Franco, playing eccentric, real-life enigma Tommy Wiseau in The Disaster Artist. All that changed when Franco was accused of sexually inappropriate behavior by five women. On Jan. 11, the Los Angeles Times reported that five women — four of whom were his former students — accused the actor of inappropriate behavior. Franco has repeatedly denied the allegations, but said he would not actively refute them because he supports women speaking out in the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements. So, when the nominations were announced Tuesday morning, it came as no surprise that Franco was not nominated in the best actor category. Voting for Oscar nominations began on Jan. 5 and closed on Jan. 12 — just one day after the Times investigation was published, Have you seen The Disaster Artist, and do you think Franco should have been nominated for best actor?

Two years ago, Oscars was branded with the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite when the top nominees were all Caucasian. This was especially troubling when for the second year in a row, the Oscar nominees were all Caucasian. Last year, the Oscars went out of its way to recognize diverse actors, in what was an extremely strong year for films with diverse casts. Do you feel the nominees should reflect all races? .

Some of the worst Oscar winners of all time have won over what some feel are the best movies ever made. How many do you recall?

Shakespeare in Love's domination of the 71st Academy Awards was almost unbelievable. It's difficult to see how it managed to beat Saving Private Ryan to Best Picture, a film that completely redefined the notion of what a war movie could achieve. The real travesty of the evening however, came with Paltrow's award for Best Actress, somehow beating Meryl Streep in One True Thing and Cate Blanchett for her fantastic portrayal of Elizabeth.

How Green Was My Valley is responsible for the original, and probably most significant Oscar snub of all time. Telling the story of the plight of a Welsh coal-mining family slowly observing the disintegration of their rural village, the film somehow beat Citizen Kane to Best Picture. The decision was no doubt much aided by the smear campaign that William Randolph Hearst (the publishing giant that Citizen Kane was based upon) ran against Orson Wells, which even led to him being booed at the ceremony.

It would take a rather heartless person to label Forrest Gump a bad film, and despite at times feeling overly sentimental, it is a worthy family favourite. Yet, the fact it won six Oscars, in the face of competition from Pulp Fiction and The Shawshank Redemption is rather baffling.

In a year when Hollywood turned political, with nominations for Steven Spielberg's Munich and Ang Lee's Brokeback Mountain, the movie Crash won over these two, despite very few people actually seeing it, or remembering it. Widely regarded as one of the worst films to ever win Best Picture.

Goodfellas lost out to Kevin Costner's long-winded historical epic, Dances With Wolves, setting up another snub for Martin Scorsese, which was widely thought to be a much superior movie.
