The 1990 movie, Home Alone follows Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin), a Chicago boy who's accidentally been left behind by his family, as he fights off the two burglars who break into their home on Christmas Eve. The gorgeous home you see in the exterior shots is located at 671 Lincoln Ave, Winnetka, Illinois, a northern suburb of Chicago, and was built in 1920. The film's indoor scenes were shot at an abandoned school building with enough space for an entire makeshift sound stage. The scene near the end of the film when Kevin goes into his neighbor's house was filmed in the old school pool, which made flooding its "basement" much easier. Each year, tourists visit the home to take photos in front of the famous Home Alone home. Have you ever visited a home made famous in a movie?

The Green Gables House in Cavendish, Prince Edward Island, was the house L.M. Montgomery thought of when she wrote her famous books, Anne Of Green Gables. The house actually used in the Anne movies was actually two different homes. These houses were both privately owned and both located in southern Ontario. One was filmed from a distance and the other, Butternut Farm on Steeles Avenue, near Toronto, was used for close-ups. The fancy woodwork on the gables were added for the movie filming. The verandah railing and the white picket fence were put up each time they used the house for filming and were taken down afterward. The orchard behind the house was used when needed as the King Orchard. Buildings with tin roofs and modern fencing such as chain link, were removed. The picket fence was put up and taken down numerous times. The main reason they decided to shoot in Ontario was because the original Anne house attracted too many tourists, which made shooting a challenge. Add to the fact that Toronto was where most of the post-production work took place, it just made better sense to film there. Do you agree it was a smart choice?

The home used in the 1982 film Poltergeist is one of the more recognizable movie homes from the past few decades. It got a fair amount of screen time, as the home itself was a central character—(spoiler alert) in the movie it was part of the Cuesta Verde planned community, which we quickly learn was built on top of an old burial ground. Naturally the end scene of the film was done using a tiny replica house (for obvious reasons if you have seen the movie). The house used is a real one, located on Roxbury Street in the Simi Valley, just outside of L.A. And, you may not want to live there. Some believe the movie—the entire franchise, even—is cursed. The main reason for this is that death has seemed to follow those attached to the franchise—Dominique Dunne (Dana Freeling), Heather O'Rourke (Carol Ann Freeling), Will Sampson (Taylor, a good spirit), and Julian Beck (Kane, an evil spirit) have all died. Two of these were premature and unexpected deaths. Do you believe in curses?

In 1986, the comedy The Money Pit, starred Tom Hanks and Shelley Long as a young couple who pile their life-savings into a fixer-upper. Filmed on location in New York, the real-life Money Pit property is anything but dilapidated. Known as Northway, the regal residence can be found in the village of Lattingtown. Sitting on over five acres of land, the property also boasts 240,669 square feet of living space and stunning interior design. Constructed in 1898, the home was once owned by the American sailor, Eric Ridder, who won a gold medal at the 1952 Olympic Games. Have you ever owned what you would consider a "money pit" home?
