When one thinks of animated films, they may conjure up Disney or Pixar family friendly. Not always the case, and animation can be a powerful way to tell more adult tales. Below a few examples I've enjoyed.

Akira- directed by Katsuhiro Otomo in 1988, who also created the the 1982 manga series it's based on. Set in Neo Tokyo, it concerns members of a biker gang who get mixed up in a conflict between various factions over something known as Akira. Anyone here consider themselves a biker in terms of motorcycles or did in the past?

Heavy Metal - want sex, drugs, rock n' roll, (and violence) this is the one. Heavy Metal was a comic magazine with adult fantasy and sci-fi tales. Originated from a French one called Metal Hurlant (Howling / Screaming Metal). Adapts some tales with new material. Elmer Bernstein did the score with songs by various rock artists popular at the time. Do you watch any type of animation not intended for children (this can include series such as South Park).

When The Wind Blows - Based on a graphic novel by Raymond Briggs. Follows an English couple in Sussex who deal with a nuclear attack and aftermath. John Mills and Peggy Ashcroft voice. Various musicians provided the songs and music, title track by David Bowie. Have you ever been in a bomb shelter and taken cover from a bombing?
