There are some movie roles that we immediately link to the actor who got the part and we can't imagine any other actor in that role, yet there are times when there was a different actor in the role that just didn't fit. The replacement actor we see in the movie turned a potential flop into a hit. Better casting, better on screen chemistry or maybe just better acting - whatever it was, it saved the movie.

If you have seen the movie "Inglourious B..terds", you might remember the role of the German officer called Hans Landa. The movie was already in pre-production, and they hadn't found the right actor for the role. Tarantino had decided to shelve the project for a few years if he couldn't find the perfect actor by Thursday. On Wednesday, Christoph Waltz auditioned, and Tarantino immediately knew he'd found his Landa. Waltz would end up winning an Oscar for his portrayal. Have you seen this movie?

You may remember the movie "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" and the role of Nurse Ratched played to an Oscar winning standard by Louise Fletcher. She nabbed the part just days before filming began. Over 40 women auditioned to play Nurse Ratched but I can't imagine anybody else in that role. Can you?

Michael J. Fox was cast in Back to the Future five weeks after it started filming. Fox, their first choice for the role couldn't do it right away (he was still busy shooting Family Ties) and continued to film with the original actor for days knowing they wouldn't use the footage. It ended up becoming Fox's most memorable role.

Christopher Plummer was cast in All the Money in the World AFTER the film had been entirely shot. Replacing Kevin Spacey in the wake of his sexual assault allegations, Plummer reshot all of Spacey's scenes in just nine days. He was nominated for an Oscar for his work on the film.
