I will admit I am not the biggest Beatles fan, and the one song of theirs I dislike the most is "Come Together". However, this song has a rather interesting back story, which many here may find surprising. John Lennon wrote the song after Timothy Leary, a counter-culture figure, asked him for a campaign song for his 1969 run for governor of California against Ronald Reagan. Leary asked Lennon for a campaign song, prompting the lyric "Come together, join the party". The original campaign attempt failed, so Lennon added a bunch of nonsensical lyrics. Lennon later admitted in interviews that the song was "gobbledygook" and a studio creation, rather than a deep, meaningful piece of art. I suspected this all along! Does anyone here agree with me on this song being a "thumbs down" for them?
