I did a survey the other day that featured the music of Jimmy Cliff. Jimmy was known for his contribution to Jamaican music, mainly reggae. If you head south from the USA you will hear different types of music along the way. I like most of it. Maybe you will too.

Before you even leave the USA, you might enjoy the music from Louisiana called Zydeco. Cajun music and zydeco are closely related parallel music forms. Cajun music is the music of the white Cajuns of south Louisiana, while zydeco is the music of the black Creoles of the same region and it typically features accordion and guitar. Here is an example of Zydeco. Did you like it?

Even though Jimmy Cliff, Johnny Nash and others are well known in reggae circles, nobody gained as much prominence during their lifetime than Jamaica's own Bob Marley. Here is one of my favourites - "Jamming" - that really highlights the reggae beat. Do you like it?

There are other beats on our way to south America including ska, salsa and others you are welcome to explore from the continent's many musical styles, including energetic Colombian Cumbia, Afro-Peruvian Marinera, Brazilian Samba & Bossa Nova, Andean Pasillo, and other genres like Salsa. Here is one of my favourite sambas that was a huge hit when I was young (1964). It is (a very nervous) Astrud Gilberto and "The Girl From Ipanema". Do you like it?
