Augustis Pablo (born Horace Michael Swaby, 1953-99) was a reggae musician arguably best known for playing the melodica on the instrumental tunes he recorded for his own releases and some of the records he produced for other artists. He obtained his first melodica from a friend's girlfriend, who said she no longer had any use for it. It's a wind instrument with a keyboard that had previously been primarily considered a means by which youngsters can learn the fundamentals of music. With which were you previously familiar before reading this question?

Augustus Pablo may be the alias Swaby adopted as a musician, but it had been used previously by other musicians as assigned by a studio and record company owner. I quite like the moniker his parents gave him, but if his thought was he could be confused with one of his genre contemporaries, the still-living Horace Andy, I can kind of understand the name change. Which name do you prefer?

For an artist who contributed a great deal to reggae's golden age in Jamaica, Pablo didn't have many hits in his homeland, as most of his music was considered too cerebral or experimental for most reggae lovers on the island. However, his artistry found a more enthusiastic reception among young people of West Indian descent living in England. Be it in music or another artform, can you think of anyone whose work found greater appreciation in a country not his/her/their own?

One of the thngs I like about Pablo is his unique look, likely due to his having had a father from India and a mother from Jamaica. Do you know anyone whose parentage from different people groups gives her/him a face that especially stands out in a crowd?

Pablo death before reaching his 50's is attributed to the myasthenia gravis he suffered. Being a Rastafarian, he partook of his religion's sacramental use of marijuana. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I think that regularly partaking of that drug couldn't have at all done any good for anyone suffering from a neuromuscular disease such as the one he had. Do you have any habits, predilections, or worse that may exacerbate a health condition you have?
Yes (and I may list at least one in a comment)
