Tom Cochrane was born in Manitoba in 1953. He moved to Ontario and became the front man of "Red Rider." He launched his solo career with "Life is a Highway" in 1991. He wrote the song after a humanitarian trip to Mozambique with World Vision. Rascal Flatts covered the song for the Disney/Pixar movie "Cars".
