1. When you're alone, do you sing, hum, or otherwise make music by and to yourself?
Sure do;my mind and mouth (and hands) can be loci of musical activity.
No, can't say I do.
Did once, but don't any longer
It never crossed my mind to do so until now, but perhaps I should start at it.
2. If you do make music by and to yourself, do you perform already extant songs.or do you make up songs and melodies of your own?
The only things on my mind when making music by myself are pieces I've already heard.
I prefer to compose my own music and/or songs in my noggin.
I don't engage in either activity.
3. Are you capable of reading and writing musical notation?
I can do neither, nor do I want that ability.
I can't do either but would like to learn (and if I can read it, hopefully I could write it?),
I can and do write my own music.
I can read it, but I don't, or would rather not, compose music.
I was once able, but am unsure if I can recall the skill/s I had.
I'm self-taught on the instrument/s I play and can compose, perhaps even arrange, in my head, but can't read musical notation.
4. Are you, as am I, someone who can think up songs and melodies in your head but are frustrated by your inability to write them out compositionally?
You've articulated my frustration exactly!
I may do experience that, but since I'm only making music for my own amnusement, it doesn't trouble me.
If I'm concocting a song or instrumental in my head, I'm able to write the notation for it, too.
I'm no music maker, so this is no concern of mine.
