I first saw our subject performing as "The Artful Dodger" (a street urchin who was a master pickpocket) in "Oliver" in NYC on Broadway in 1964, (which at that time starred Clive Revill and Georgia Brown.) Fresh from having played the role in London, he was nominated for a Tony Award in 1963 for best performance in a featured role in a musical. I was captivated by his singing, dancing, and charisma. Which of the following are true for you? I know "Oliver" was a musical based on the novel "Oliver Twist" by Charles D*ickens.

On February 9, 1964, members of the cast of "Oliver", including Davy Jones, performed two songs from the musical on "The Ed Sullivan Show", an American TV variety program. The Beatles made their first US TV appearance on that same episode. Davy later said seeing the effect the Beatles had on their fans influenced him to become a Monkee. Your thoughts?
