Man of La Mancha is based on the novel Don Quixote by Spanish author Miguel de Cervantes. In 1965 playwright Dale Wasserman made it into a stage play, music by Mitch Leigh, lyrics by Joe Darion. "I shall impersonate a man. Come, enter into my imagination and see him..."

The musical is a story within a story, Cervantes and his servant thrown into a communal dungeon to face the Inquisition. Back in my college days was on a crew building and painting the set for this (that's me). Sorry for the dark image, chalk it up to cameras of the time and a lot of greys, browns and black. Ended up looking pretty realistic though. Have you ever worked on a stage show in some capacity?
Yes - as an actor, set or costume person, props, sound, lighting, rigging, etc.

With 'The Governor' overseeing proceedings, a mock court case is held for Cervantes belongings. His defense is to tell his tale of Don Quixote, inviting his fellow prisoners to join in playing roles. Ever found yourself the center of attention telling a story, perhaps around a campfire or dinner table?

Quixote sees life as he deems it should be and not as it is, such as battling a windmill he envisions a giant. Aldonza is a serving wench he sees as his lady Dulcinia. This is Sophia Loren in the 1972 film version who's had quite enough of Quixote's (Peter O' Toole) imaginings. While I'm sure folk here have a pretty good grip on reality, ever find yourself daydreaming while doing something else, so that shopping trip becomes battling Mongol hordes or some such thing?
Yes - Certainly done this while involved in other tasks.

The Impossible Dream - is the 'signature' song from the musical, expressing Quixote's quest of what can be, battle undefeatable foes, right wrongs, go where others will not, keep trying. What's your take, a fools errand, or something to aspire to?
I don't pretend to be able to solve all problems, but do what I can.
