Comic strips are a source one might think "they made a stage musical out of that?!" Some did prove to be quite popular though, others not so well recalled. Rather than focusing on one in this installment, four below.

Annie - based on Little Orphan Annie by Harold Gray, it opened on Broadway in 1977. Music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin. The tale involves Annie escaping Miss Hannigan's orphanage to find her parents. She eventually meets the wealthy 'Daddy' Warbucks. Bit of a personal question, but were you an adopted orphan, or have adapted one yourself?

Li'l Abner - released in 1956. it's based on the comic by Al Capp. Music by Gene De Paul, and lyrics by Johnny Mercer. Abner is a strapping young guy living in Dogpatch , a rural hillbilly type community. When members of the world outside show up, leads to a funny culture clash. Speaking of, ever have an incident you encountered a place or people you wondered "what's up" as their way of life wasn't quite like yours?

You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown - Charles Schultz is the creator of the comic Peanuts this comes from. The 1967 musical features music and lyrics by Clark Gesner. There's no main storyline, more a day in the life focusing on the characters. In the video, Charlie, Lucy, Linus and Schroder have to write a book report on Peter Rabbit. Find it funny as it pretty much nails approaches to such a task. Which would yours be?
