Les Misérables is a 1980 musical based on novel by Victor Hugo. Set in 1815 France, goes to the rebellion of 1832. There's a lot going on - law, morality, politics, religion, justice. In part one, we'll meet a few main characters.

Jean Valjean - sentenced to five years for stealing a loaf of bread. Ends up 19 for escape attempts. Later becomes mayor, adopts a young girl. Fairly decent guy who got a raw deal, but ends up a key figure helping others. Do you think people can overcome misdeeds / anger of the past to become something else?

Javert - prison guard, later becomes inspector. Obsessive with law and order. Yeah, Valjean breaks his parole, but continues to pursue him even after he's become mayor and changed man. Do you feel some in police work a bit too much into that "respect my eye-tor-ity" thing?
