In September 2013, when the musical 'Fun Home' opened off-Broadway, all indications were that this could not work, or if it did, it would appeal to a limited audience. Here was a musical based on the 2006 graphic novel by Alison Bechdel about a lesbian's troubled relationship with her dad, who was also gay, but lived his whole life trying to keep it secret, until he eventually dies, in an apparent suicide. Not exactly your typical Broadway musical. After good reviews, the show moved to Broadway, in March 2015, where it swept the Tony Awards that year, and became the "hot" ticket. It is still running on Broadway, defying all the odds. Have you seen the musical?
