Davey and Goliath is a clay-animated U.S. children's series created in conjunction with a couple of now-defunct Lutheran church denominations (first the United Lutheran Church in America, then the Lutheran Church in America), first airing in television syndication in the early 1960's. The animation for the show's original run was supervised b Art Clokey, by that time already known for his work on the animated shorts starring Gumby and Pokey. Though there was little explicitly Lutheran about the shorts, the stories starring Davey, his talking dog, Goliath, and Davey's family and multicultural friends--these cartoons where racially-integrated years before high-profile, live-action shows such as I Spy and Julia later in the '60's--there were lessons to be learned about biblical morality and precepts demonstrated with humor, and often adventure, in most every episode.
