It took years of tomboyish lobbying before Mom caved in and gave me a pair of my brother's old jeans. It took one Thanksgiving family reunion to get a Levi's jacket for Christmas. All I had to do was walk into Gran's house wearing one that belonged to my law school boyfriend. Am not sure why that worked, but it did... Anyway. Did you ever really, really, really want an article of clothing your grown-ups (for whatever reason) objected to?

Somewhere between the Summer of Love and Woodstock, still safely tucked up in our little suburban high school, it was fashionable to put patches- however unnecessary- on our jeans. During the time we were embroidering our denims, it was also popular (at least in my area) to sew embroidered guitar straps to the hems of jeans. By the time I finished this little task for my adored older brother, I was over it. But I did have a belt with suede fringe at each end. And have it still. Do you have any clothes from high school still in a closet or drawer?

Think I scrolled past an ad for Retro Mom Jeans the other day. But it may have just been a flashback to the 90's and my kids' youngest years. Have you ever worn Mom Jeans?

For most of his long life, my father-in-law wore either work clothes (painter's whites) or a pair of khakis and a button down shirt. Until one of his grown grandchildren gave him a pair of jeans for his 80th birthday- something he had never before worn. These he considered a minor miracle in comfort and utility, and he wore blue jeans until he passed away at 89. Is one ever to old to wear blue jeans?
