Judith Leiber was the only designer and female pattern maker in Budapest with the ability to make a handbag from start to finish. Having survived the Holocaust, Leiber married a US soldier and moved to NYC. She worked for several handbag manufacturers in the US over the years until she took the leap and opened her own company in Manhattan in 1963.
