If you're a regular listener to current Southern soul music, you likely know this survey's title as a prominent, oft-repeated lyric in "Boots on the Ground," the recent hit by singer 803Fresh (born Douglas Furtick, his alias derived from the telephone area code of where he resides in South Carolina). I heard the same line as an exhortation by the singer of a blues band to the ladies in the audience of a concert i attended recently, with the original song later played by the DJ at the show who spun tunes between bands. In both instances, the question prompted women in the audience to come onto the dancefloor in line dance formation showing off their--you guessed?-- hand fans. Are you familiar with the song that inspired their spontaneous, showy exhibition?

The sight of all those ladies synchronizing their moves and waving their fans was something impressive, though "Boots" is far from the first Southern soul song to inspire a line dance. However, the only woman with whom I have regular contact who waves a similar fan anywhere near regularly near me is she who sits in the row ahead of me at church; and her use of a fan isn't for a fashion statement. What I want to know from female Tellwutters is: are fans trendy nowadays among ladies of whatever skin color you have?
Yes, in so far as I've seen. (and I may sport one myself)

The fan touted in the video review accompanying this question is said to good for line dancing, raving (?!), and keeping oneself or another person near its user cool, If you're a gal --or guy--who carries a hand fan, do you do so more for practical use or show?
