A shooting at the White House Correspondent's Dinner stole the headlines this week, but another controversy took its share of attention too. It is being reported that Jennifer Rauchet, wife of the US secretary of defence, Pete Hegseth, wore what appeared to resemble a gown listed on Shein for $42 (similar to another on Temu for half the price). Shein is a huge Chinese fast-fashion marketplace, and Temu is that country's answer to Amazon – while Hegseth champions nationalism and "America first". The US also continues to engage in a trade war with China, and Rauchet's husband has been outspoken on the threat he sees the nation posing to the world. Now, some might argue that it is refreshing to see a politician's wife wearing something affordable rather than spend thousands on a designer gown, many feel this is a "tone deaf" fashion statement given what is going on in the U.S. these days. Are you familiar with this "fashion faux pas" that is in the headlines this week?

In recent weeks, prom fashion has been shared, criticized and joked about all over social media. But nothing quite comes up to the controversy created by this young woman's "banned" prom dress. While the "naked dress" trend has been front and center at all the award shows and red carpets this season, a high school student attending her prom got turned away at the door for being "almost naked". Her mother posted on social media asking if this dress was "too much". It may not be much of a surprise that the majority felt it was, definitely, too much. What do you say?
