Results: Cultural Appropriation or Cultural Appreciation?
Published on 09/13/2015
Recently Elle Canada noted on twitter that the Dashiki was the newest-It item. However, this sparked an outcry of responses where people claimed that Elle was being ignorant for saying that the Dashiki was now trendy, since it is worn regularly in West Africa. Many argued that Elle was culturally appropriating the garment and trying to make it trendy in North America. One twitter user responded, “ #mycultureisnotcouture ”
