I started volunteering at a food bank last year. I learned that they don't give out the expired food, because many people coming through turn up their noses at it. They feel like they are being given garbage, and it gives the organization a bad reputation. If you have used a food bank, or hypothetically needed to, how would feel about this?
I wouldn't buy it at the store, but if I was struggling enough to use a food bank, I'd still be grateful for it.

I would resent it, we still deserve the same food protections and dignity as any other person.

It depends upon what "expired" means. If it means "not safe to eat" it would bother me. If it's just another "eat by for best flavor, I'd be fine." 0.10% 1

One of the volunteers began taking the expired food to put out in a little free food pantry where she lives. People there also got offended, and began causing problems for her. What are your thoughts on this?
She was trying to do something nice for her neighbors, they should be grateful.

She may have had good motivations, but it's still insulting to be struggling and have someone put out "trash" for you to eat.

Again, expirations for shelf stable foods are understated. It s still good for quite a while after. Just don t use expired dairy past that week, or eat food that can spoil fast or easily. Shelf stable are called so for a reason. 0.11% 1
