The local food bank won't distribute expired food, and the woman putting it in a little free food pantry by her house gave up, due to harassment. The food bank started throwing it in the dumpster. So I decided to step in, and offer it up on the Buy-Nothing group. Are you part of a buy nothing group?

My thought was I could list each item along with its expiration date, and then people who were fine with that could have it for free, and those who make the ick face at the thought of expired food could just scroll past. A side note - I was only taking produce and shelf stable items, no meat or dairy. A good plan?
I love it! Nobody gets offended, nothing gets wasted.

Unsure - I don't know if I'd want a bunch of strangers showing up at my house to take things. Might even be more true if I know they're financially hard up enough to want expired food.

It's a nice idea, but it sounds like too much work.

I had no idea what I was in for. This was what they gave me in just one week - it took me three trips to get everything back to my house to sort. Luckily I live only a half mile away. I pulled an 11 hour day sorting things by category, tossing items that didn't look safe (rusted or bulging cans, items with broken seals) and typing out each item and its expiration date. Would you keep doing this?
Yes - because that's way too much food to just throw in a dumpster when people are hungry!

Yes, but maybe switch it up to a free expired food yard sale kinda thing, instead of listing it all out.
