An episode of Inside Edition which is set to air tonight (Mon, Feb 8, 2016) is highlighting what appears to be a common practice in restaurants regarding lobster dishes. Investigators tested the purported lobster meat at 28 different establishments (both local places and national chains) and found that 35% of samples did not contain pure lobster meat. Does this surprise you? Yes

These samples were found to use substitutes such as whiting (an inexpensive fish) and langostino (something more closely related to a hermit crab than a lobster). Sometimes there was actual lobster mixed with the other meat, and sometimes the samples were purely a substitute meat. Do you order lobster when you go out to eat? Yes, all the time.

The FDA told Inside Edition that if there is a mixture used, the name of dish must reflect that. Do you care if there is other meat in your lobster dishes? Yes! I want nothing but pure lobster.
