In rare cases this is associated with a psychotic disorder. Or in pervasive or persistent cryptic pregnancy the woman is in denial because of a trauma like rape, assault, or incest. More commonly, she simply does not realize she is pregnant. Women with family members who had cryptic pregnancy are more at risk to have the experience themselves.
