1. When former "Top Chef" host, food expert, and author Padma Lakshmi was 14, the car she was riding in with her mother and step-father was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler. Their sedan went airborne, dropping 40 ft down an embankment, and was stopped when it struck a tree. Freed by the "jaws of life", Padma had shattered her right arm and fractured her right hip. Fortunately, she regained full use of both after surgery, but has a 7-inch scar on her upper arm.
