No, this is not about expelling gas from your upper GI tract, but airing out your home. 'Burping' one's home is a centuries-old cleaning ritual that is a part of life in Germany and parts of central Europe. It's called “lüften," which means 'to air out'. It’s a daily practice that offers several benefits for your home and health. You simply open windows and doors in your home for 10 to 30 minutes each day, replacing stale indoor air with fresh air. Over the course of a single day, the air inside your home becomes stale, laden with particles and allergens which may irritate your nose or even causes headaches. High humidity, caused by poor air circulation, can lead to mold and mildew growth in your home. The idea is to remove stale air and bring in fresh air, circulating it throughout your home for complete ventilation in every room. This is why it’s important to open all your windows and doors at once, as it allows fresh air to circulate more quickly.
