In a study done by scientists in 2012, nine male participants were tested using sensors to see which cooled their core temperature better while riding stationary bikes in a relatively LOW HUMIDITY environment. Hot drinks actually promoted sweating, which evaporates, thus cooling the person. HOWEVER, in high humidity conditions, the humidity stymies sweating so drinking cool drinks helps to cool core temperature and ward off heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
