I always try to think of what charity I might support in any year. Sometimes it's school raffle draws, or 50/50 tickets. It's harder these days to contribute a lot. This year I decided I am donating blood this week for the first time. I am in Canada and they do not pay ppl to do it but it's all I can do this year. Have you ever donated blood or plasma?

I have a fairly rare blood type, AB+, same as my Dad. This means I can receive any blood type if I needed a transfusion. I am a Universal Donor for plasma (all blood types could receive my plasma donation). But I can only donate red blood cells to another AB+ recipient. Would this be a reason to encourage donation?

I filled out the screening questions and health info. I take no medications and am not sick. Do you think I will be accepted at age 57? They said there was no age limit.

I was reading that less than 2 per cent of ppl donate. I was thinking they need to change the advertising campaign on the radio to suggest that if you have nothing to give this year, as times are tough, that you can donate, it's in you to give the gift of life. Is this a good suggestion?

I began to wonder what blood type my 16 year old might be. I am AB+ her father was A+. She is likely a combo of A or B or AB with +. She could also be a recessive O allele. Have you ever pondered these things?
