3. The fish were already dead when they were purchased, since they were not able to be sold as food. In fact, the park planned to honor the fish for their holiday efforts after the rink closed. The staff at Space World discussed the morality of the idea before opening the rink, which they hoped would encourage children to have fun while learning about fish. They were planning to hold a memorial service for the fish inviting a Shinto priest, which they had planned before getting criticized and shutting down the rink.
