Cultural anxiety: When middle class whites experience loss of identity in racialized terms, blaming immigrants, Muslims, and people of color when their livelihoods are threatened. For example, whites who opposed the early Affirmative Action legislation because people of color tended to get the job were said to be culturally anxious, not racist. Do you think "cultural anxiety" is a softer-pedaled way of describing racism?
Yes--"cultural anxiety" is essentially racism because people make judgments based on skin color or culture.
