I sometime like to greet people by saying "Hiya!" instead of "Hi!," "Hello!" or anything else. Do you ever use the same word to greet anyone?

As you may have surmised from this survey's title, sometimes my saying "hiya" to whomever I'm speaking is misinterpreted as my having said "How are ya?!" Have you ever greeted someone by saying "hiya" and having that person mishear you and indicating s/he heard you say "How are ya?" or anything other than "hiya"?

I may be the only person I know (and I believe I know myself reasonably well) who regularly and unaffectedly uses "hiya" as a greeting to other people. Excluding yourself, since I already asked about you in as previous question above, do you know anyone else who uses "hiya" as a greeting?

To say "hiya" as I've been using it throughout this survey is in such a way that the emphasis is is on the second syllable. However, reversing the emphasis, as in sayin "hi YA" has long sounded to me like the stereotypical thing someone would say while throwing a karate chop or making another gesticulating marial arts move. Have you ever said that while practicing a marial art or heard someone else say it while doing so?
