You might have been thinking I was referring to skin color, sexual orientation or religion when I said I am in a minority group. But - none of those are true for me, I am a biker. I ride a Harley. And I have been told I'm not allowed in certain places -especially when I'm with other bikers. People draw conclusions about us because we're on motorcycles, and/or because of how we're dressed. What conclusions do you draw when you see a group of bikers?

They are wealthy middle aged men and some woman who enjoy biking in a group or club. Chances are they are currently raising money for charity. If they have Hell's Angels on their jackets they are a criminal enterprise and are to be avoided but this group does not seek publicity - the patch on the jacket is a warning.. Honest law abiding citizens have noting to fear in any case.

When I see a group of bikers, I don't jump to conclusions based solely on their appearance or mode of transportation. Instead, I see a community of individuals who share a passion for motorcycles and the freedom of the open road. I understand that being a biker is not just about the bike itself, but also about camaraderie, adventure, and a sense of belonging. I recognize that stereotypes and prejudices against bikers exist, but I choose to approach each person as an individual rather than making assumptions based on their chosen lifestyle. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and dignity, regardless of their hobbies or interests. If anything, seeing a group of bikers reminds me of the diversity and richness of human experience, and I appreciate the opportunity to engage with individuals from different walks of life.

Bike Week is going on where I live right now and I love it. The majority of bikers are older and just want to ride and enjoy our beautiful area. They spend tons of money in local restaurants and bars which keeps our taxes low and supports small local businesses. I have always loved the sound of Harleys and have no issue with them.

When a group of Harley bikers come through our town, I think of all the good "runs" they do to collect toys for poor children for Christmas. When I first moved to the city (now live in the willy wags), there was a group, can't think of what they called themselves, but if you knew one in the group and needed help with something, they would not hesitate to help! People should not be judged for any reason. I remember meeting the kindest man at a grocery store in southern Maine. He dressed like a hobo and scruffy-looking, but very kind, considerate, and thoughtful. He shared some things with me about how people hurt him because of his looks--emotionally & physically. I learned he was a millionaire, but dressed this way, so people wouldn't take advantage of him!

Everyone is discriminated against one time or another in their life time. It is a big world that we live in for posibly 100 years. I've been riding for over 60 years. I never was much of a Harley fan but I used to ride with a bunch. Too heavy for me, though I was very impressed by my friend's late model Sportster. I remember this one ride we were on in NE Ohio. Roads were crap, pull of potholes. We stopped for a sandwich and a drink at some tavern, and one of the guys came up to me and said "I finally understand why you like those lightweight bikes. I watched you avoid every pothole for the last 10 miles while I had to drive through every one." But yes, we'd been refused service several times. It didn't matter that everyone in the group was a vet and three of us were volunteer firefighers and first responders. Ignorant bigots don't deserve my money.

OMGoodness. I am 84 years old and when I was 16 my husband had a 1949 Harley, that was in 1957. We would ride his Harley from New York to Boston and all around New York. I would sit on the back and when you passed another rider you would give them a wave. I remember my husband had to jump on the Harley to get the motor running. In those days, no helmets, but my husband wore goggles to be able to see. I am a widow and you are bringing so many happy memories back. Thank you.

I also have a motorcycle but I rarely ever ride, too dangerous where I live, driver's are very bad in the greater Toronto area.
