Diesel prices in the U.S. have climbed to record levels, increasing costs for farmers, trucking companies and other businesses that depend heavily on fuel. Because food has to be grown, processed and transported, higher fuel costs can eventually contribute to higher grocery prices as well. Refrigerated foods such as produce, dairy and meat can be especially affected by transportation costs.
