After battling dance injuries for some time, Gray Davis ended his 11-year career with the American Ballet Theatre in 2018, and returned to his home state of South Carolina. While he was making a living teaching ballet classes, his brother-in-law suggested he should consider a job in law enforcement. Eager to be of service, Gray graduated from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy in 2019 (and is pictured here with his wife, ABT soloist Cassandra Trenary). After graduation, Gray Davis became a deputy for the Abbeville County Sheriff's Office. In 2020, their career paths having diverged, he and Cassandra divorced. She is now a principal dancer for the Vienna State Opera Ballet in Austria. Do you suspect there were issues with their marriage before he moved to South Carolina, or that moving to South Carolina created the rift?
He would not have moved states away if the marriage had been good.

Gray Davis relocated to the Greenwood County Sheriff's Office in SC, most recently working as a K9 handler. He stated, "To help somebody was a great feeling that I wanted to replicate as much as possible. In this job you get to do it almost every other day, without any kind of recognition, though each person appreciates what you do in their own way." What traits from the world of dance would transfer well into police work?
