2. Did you know that there are a number of different types of mountain biking with variations in the style and the bike suited to different kinds of terrain and riding?

Trail riding - This basically involves taking a normal mountain bike over trails such as hiking paths and other off road tracks.
Downhill - Downhill mountain bikes are built to help you attack a descent and get to the bottom as quickly as possible and is considered one of the greatest pleasures you can have on any bike.
Cross-Country (XC) - It is one of the most popular forms of mountain biking. It involves riding on normal trails which include built sections with small obstacles like logs and jumps. You will peddle most of the time and cover long distances.
All Mountain (AM) - It is more extreme XC with bigger obstacles, rougher trails and harder riding. You will still be riding uphill and downhill but as opposed to XC the emphasis is on the downhill and throwing the bike around.
Enduro - It is one of the newest types of mountain biking. Enduro involves a combination of DH, XC and AM. Riders take on large uphills in order to attack timed downhill sections. It's a big test for riders.
Four-cross/Dual Slalom - These involve competitive racing down pre-prepared BMX-like tracks. The aim is to be the first one past the post. Four-cross involves four riders on the same track. Duel Slalom involves two riders on two identical tracks.
Freeride - Freeride mountain biking is an extreme mountain biking sport that gives people the right to act as they want without thinking about the risk factor. It focuses more on the tricks, style and technical expertise of the rider.
Dirt Jumping - It is a type of riding that involves getting airborne on built jumps usually made from piled and shaped dirt. The idea is that the rider attacks the jump, lands correctly and carries on cycling.
MTB (Mountain Bike) Touring/Off Road Touring - It involves covering long distances on your bike, often carrying all your own equipment and using the bike as the only means of getting around. It includes a number of different types of terrain.
4. Mountain biking is a great way to get fit and healthy while having a fun and sociable time with other riders. One rider said "It is amazing, so so cool, the coolest." Do you think mountain biking is something you will look into further?
