Having noticed my spending is heavily slanted toward "things" for myself or (most commonly) others, my husband wants us to take a year-long "no shopping" pledge and focus on experiences instead. Have you or someone you know ever taken a shopping break of any significant amount of time?

My husband doesn't enjoy shopping nearly as much nor have as much personal discretionary spending I do, making this a fairly one-sided challenge in my view. Do you feel he should have to adjust another area of his life he values rather than take the same pledge of 'no shopping for a year'?
Yes - if the idea is changing habits and sacrifice, then he needs to pick a habit of his that needs changing and make that sacrifice

No - the idea is to reevaluate that aspect of your lives regardless of who spends more or what each of you spends your money on

Depends - trying to trick him into shopping for you is cheating, so it depends on why you want him to not take the shopping pledge with you

In all honesty, I think the idea of a year of experiences rather than shopping sounds very challenging for me, but also very exciting. Do you think I should take the pledge "as is" (we both give up unnecessary shopping for one year)?
